Purpose: The clinical symptoms of calcific tendinitis around the hip joint were reviewed, and the effect of oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents compared with that of a mixed injection of corticosteroid and local anesthetics as conservative treatments.
Materials and Methods: Nine cases were retrospectively reviewed in this study. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed in seven cases. One case was treated with surgical excision, four with oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and four with the mixed injection of corticosteroid and local anesthetics.
Results: The four cases treated with the mixed injection of corticosteroid and local anesthetics had immediate relief of pain, but the four treated with the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents took more than 2 weeks to achieve pain relief. There was no recurrence in any of the cases.
Conclusions: Dramatic relief of pain was noted in all cases treated with the mixed injection of corticosteroid and local anesthetics.
